Our editorial standard
Fewer gifts. Better reasons.
1. Quality first
We prefer natural and durable materials when they make sense: cotton, linen, wool, wood, glass, stainless steel, and quality ceramics.
2. Thoughtful ingredients
We favor recognizable ingredients and transparent sourcing, without unsupported health claims.
3. Credible standards
EWG Verified®, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, USDA Organic, Fair Trade, and FSC appear only with evidence for the exact product.
4. Sustainability when meaningful
Durability, reusability, responsible materials, and specific packaging facts matter more than vague “eco-friendly” language.
5. Fit for the moment
Sympathy differs from birthday. A coworker differs from a partner. Context changes what belongs on the shortlist.
6. Commission never determines quality
Lieu only publishes commissionable links, but higher commission does not move a weaker product above a better one.
Frequently asked
How does Lieu decide what makes a good gift?
Lieu evaluates whether a gift fits the moment, relationship, budget, household, and any practical considerations the sender shares.
What does Lieu mean by a high-quality gift?
A high-quality gift uses appropriate materials or ingredients, is made for its intended use, and has enough reliable information for Lieu to assess it responsibly.
How does Lieu verify claims such as organic, EWG Verified®, GOTS, Fair Trade, OEKO-TEX, or FSC?
Lieu requires evidence for the exact product and claim before publishing it; an unsupported or merchant-wide statement is not treated as product verification.
Why doesn't Lieu recommend flowers or live plants?
Lieu is designed for moments when flowers are not the right fit, so flowers and live plants are permanently excluded from its recommendation catalog.
